curtain call

Saturday was Paige's Big Day. Recital time had finally come. This girl has fun in her tumbling class, but really, it's just requisite for her to perform on stage!!

She LOVES everything about the stage - costumes, hair and makeup (she checked her lipstick countless times), and all eyes on her.

She did a great job. This was a girl who was doing crooked cartwheels in January. I was impressed. At dress rehearsal she collapsed during her 2 bridges and hesitated during her assisted back handspring, but killed it during the recital. YAY! She was all smiles - which she practiced. :)

I snapped a quick one of her bum anyway. It’s cute - when will she ever again be wearing solid gold shimmery hot pants? Dare I say never! [As a bonus it shows off my great alteration skills.]

Mommy: So, what was your favorite part?

Paige: Being on stage.

M: What was your 2nd favorite?

P: When everyone was screaming and cheering for me. (said while beaming with pride)

Here's a video of the routine, for those that couldn't be there for the 22 dance/tumbling numbers in person:

gettin' funky

Our cutie Paige has been taking hip-hop dance lessons from a woman in our neighborhood for the past couple of years now. She loves it most days and has proven to have quite a rhythm (we have no idea how that happened). The last time we had sign-up, Ms. Jackie even asked Paige to join the class with the 8 year old girls because she's so incredibly talented.

Tonight was the recital. Paige lives for the recital. The only reason she goes to class is because it's the only way she can be in the recital. She was fabulous! I got a big smile from our little hip-hopper when she got on stage and spotted me there in the front row with my camera, ready to make her feel like the little star she was at that moment. After that, though, she was all serious business, concentrating on her timing and moves.

For the finale, Ms. J has everyone come out and do a brief solo while she announces their name. Paige didn't hesitate on her turn and did an amazing jump-up-and-turn-then-go-down-into-the-splits move. (It was as graceful as it could be when you're on the spot and in tennis shoes)

Way to go Paigey!
