all-stars wrap-up

All good things must come to an end... all-stars lasted one very long week. Our brave San Tan little leaguers ended with a 1-3 record, but it sounds worse than it was. The first 2 games they came up short by only 1 teensy run. The third game they dominated 22-4. Their final game they were legitimately outplayed by the other team - the game ending a whole hour early after they were run-ruled (our team scored 0 points in 4 innings, while theirs scored what seemed like an infinity).

We had a couple night games, but the two that were at 5:30 were killer. At a 110 degrees in the shade, I was impressed by those of us willing to cheer our team on - I felt so sorry for the players, decked out in their uniforms in the full sun and running around. I wouldn't have blamed any one of them for just sitting down right in their spot on the field.

I was so proud of our little leaguers, Taylor, of course, being my favorite. They were really great sports - even after a loss. There was one little boy on another team who, after being called out at base, jerked his helmet off, stomped his feet and started crying mid field! Granted, he was 9 or 10 years old, but I have much more admiration for those who even when losing, can still find love of the game and support their team mates. Way to go guys!!
