mommy moment #29557

There are some days when it would be great to just call a substitute mommy - just for a few hours even. Those days when there's too much laundry (have I mentioned my loathing for this chore?), too much whining and too little patience.

Today, actually went pretty smoothly. Our cousin Ethan and Gabriel surprisingly got along well today. I try to stagger their naps so that there is not much opportunity for a brawl.

When it was Gabriel's turn to nap, I put him in his crib. His crib has a crib tent over it to give his mommy peace of mind that he is safe and to prevent him from crawling out during anti-nap moments and emptying every drawer in the room. After I put him down I can hear him occasionally giggle, but mostly he would squeal out his displeasure at his imprisonment. But, because I knew he was safe and we all needed a little time out, he was left to try and put himself to sleep.

Shortly after, Taylor and Paige arrived home from school and Taylor went upstairs to rescue Gabriel from the crib. Taylor called to me that I needed to come upstairs because he was not going to save his brother just yet.

When I got there I found a naked boy and a big mess. I've heard of these things happening but it took me until child #3 to experience it for myself. Poop. Everywhere. Yuck. Luckily (seriously?) it wasn't the super messy kind (if you know what I mean) and it was easily picked up. Unluckily, though, it was very odoriferous, smeared inside the bed and in the netting of the tent and plastered onto Little Messy's hands. Not even 3 washes got rid of the smell on his hands.

Gabriel has been soaked in the bubble bath until his fingers were pruned and he smells like lavender now. I've cleaned all the sheets, cloroxed each slat on the crib and the tent and still I can smell it. I'm not sure if I've missed something or if I just think I smell it - hopefully it's the latter. Todd came home and said he doesn't smell a thing, but I have superior smell. Lucky me.
