mother of the year

I don't suspect any official person to name me mother of the year any time soon. Today just added several more reasons to the list of things not to do if you're up for that title.

The other day Todd and I had the 10 year old boy scouts over for an activity. One of the boys kept saying how this or that "sucks" throughout the whole activity. After everyone had gone, we said to Taylor that it didn't sound very nice when boys said "sucks".

Tonight, Taylor said to me "Mother, " (that's his latest way to reference me - he says it's either that or Rachel) "remember how you told me the other day it didn't sound nice to say 'sucks'?"

"Yes."

"It doesn't sound nice coming from grownups either."

.......

Tonight is my monthly Bunco night. Our group has been going strong for about 8 years, through almost everyone moving out of the neighborhood. I love having a reason to get out and chat with my friends. Last month, we didn't even bother to play the game, we just ate our dinner and sat around and talked. On Bunco nights, my children usually get pizza. Taylor loves it, and the others tolerate it. Tonight Gabriel was not in love with the frozen pizza that was chosen so he kept throwing his food on the floor. Taylor walked by Gabriel's mess and asked, "Would it be okay if I ate Gabriel's pizza off the floor?"

Just like any good mother would, I said "Of course". May as well kill two birds with one stone - seconds and cleanup.

...........

This morning Daddy was out of town and I got the kids off to school on time dressed, with hair done, teeth brushed (yea me!) all while on the phone making a Dr. appointment for Taylor. I got dressed to try and go jogging and then thought "Who am I kidding?". Besides, it was cloudy out and it would have just rained on me anyway. So, last minute I got dressed and headed down to Gabriel's school and watched him in his classroom before they had they're school carnival.

I checked the kids out of school early, patted myself on the back for remembering to tell the neighbor kid that I wouldn't be picking him up after school and he needed to take the bus. I dropped Paige and Gabriel at Grandma's and made it to his appointment ON TIME!!

This would have felt great had I remembered to tell the other little guy that Taylor is in after school sports with that he wouldn't be there and we weren't picking up today!! Seriously, I'm okay with scarring my own kids, but I would prefer NOT to be messing up the neighbor's children. The poor guy was waiting around until he found a cell phone he could use to call home.

So, who's ready to send their kids over?

Ask Taylor how it sounds coming from a one year old? (None in particular...whistling, nonchalantly)

And I know how Gabriel feels about that pizza. Time to pick a new brand. No offense.

Oh, that poor kid. You know how that feels.

Don't worry. We're certain that there were plenty of good motherly things you did today that you're just not telling us about. :)

maybe it's better if we keep the mook on the east coast for now. you know, just until you get a little more practice around kids.
