The way he goes about planning his car cracks me up. He's all about it being cool, but doesn't seem to mind that the design isn't the most sleek and probably not the fastest. I've mentioned before, he loves all things military and wanted his car this year to be a..... submarine. (Last year, I think it was a tank.) When he would show me the submarine -er, car... he would make the sound of a sonar ping - a sound that DOES NOT scream 'fast car'.The people who put the Derby together this year went all out. The decorations looked festive and they even took the boys' photo so that when it came to be their turn, their image in a race car would come up on the screen.
Todd was asked to announce the race and he did a fabulous job. I have my suspicions about him being highly caffeinated, but he even cracked me up (which is no small task). One lady there, was crying she was laughing so hard. Everything was said very dryly and in all seriousness, such as: "Hey folks, be sure you stand back behind the flags where you'll be safe from flying debris. With the tires coming off the way they are we don't want anyone to get killed." Trying to write this down, does it no justice. The fact that what he said was unexpected and was the funny part. He even started an impromptu 'YMCA' dance during a long pit stop.
As anticipated, Taylor's submarine did not take 1st place, but it looked the coolest and toughest for sure. I did manage to capture at least one win at the finish line. All the boys seemed to have a great time.
(To those boys who did win, congratulations to the daddys that made their cars!)
