Today we went for a nice little hike with the cub scouts. It was beautiful spring weather, and I was attempting to take a few pictures of all the scouts. As I attempted to take some pictures of Taylor, he would make a face or turn his head - typical of most young boys.
Along for the hike was one of the boys' dad. He's apparently a very skilled hiker and was more than willing to take the lead and explain the dos and don'ts of hiking to all the boys (i.e. DO have a buddy, DO drink lots of water, DON'T leave said buddy, DON'T disturb the wildlife). He was a plethora of information. While I absolutely agreed with all that he offered, his delivery was a little lecture-y for a 'fun hike'.
As Taylor ducked away from my picture taking, boy's dad had this to add:
"You should never make faces or do something that may ruin the picture. The picture does not belong to you, it belongs to the person taking the picture. It is their property. Therefore, if you ruin the picture, you are ruining their property. If you ruin their property, it is vandalism."
???
Wow! That was a bit of a stretch.
After the knowledgeable daddy walked away, Taylor - who really is a respectful 10 year old - looked at me bewildered and said, "What's up with the vandalism speech?"

That's a new one to me. I suppose it could apply but a picture taken by a mom who is ALWAYS pointing a camara at her 10 year old son has to be somewhat tolerant of funny faces. It could be her best shot of the day. He sounds like a good scout leader however.
so are you going to prosecute?
