This weekend's activity was building and using a potato gun. Because nothing is more fun to a boy than researching and building something that could do harm if used improperly. [That's the part of me who had no brothers and becomes a worrying mom speaking.] Todd's cover is that he'll use it with the scouts, but we all know that inside he's just a 12 year old boy that wants to shoot things into the sky.
Taylor assembled a few neighborhood kids to come give it a try. After they each got a turn to aim and shoot, Todd offered up some dough to make it interesting - $1 for each time they could catch the potato. After one brave soul caught a potato on the forehead, a no hands rule was implemented and they started using their shirts as a net.
In the end, Todd shelled out $3 and emptied a bag of potatoes. Taylor also learned what it feels like to catch a flying potato with his stomach. Ouch! It slipped right through his "net".
