The rest of us remained downstairs as she perched herself at the top of the stairs wailing loudly and complaining of the injustice of her punishment. Occasionally we'd call holler back with a "Go to bed", "Go to your room" or "That's enough Paige", but mostly we attempted to ignore her - hoping that eventually it would all just stop.
Her pleas to be released grew louder and more insistent. As she became more desperate, they also grew in hilarity. So later that night as Todd and I went to bed I got out a pen and paper and we recounted all the phrases she used in an attempt to convince us she needed to come downstairs.
- Why am I up here?
- This is the worstest day of my life!
- I have my pj's on, can I come down now?
- I'm thirsty! Can I get a drink?
- I'm sick!
- I can't take this anymore!!
- My throat hurts...
- my ears hurt...
- my tummy hurts...
- I think I'm gonna throw up!
- I'm scared.
- (wracking sobs) DON'T YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR LITTLE GIRL!!??
and the one that finally worked on DADDY... drum roll please...
- (sweetly, with sniffles) CAN I COME DOWN AND GIVE YOU A HUG AND A KISS?
Can anyone believe that he actually bought into that one??? I was dying...

I thought she was going to come down and hug & kiss me goodnight, then go back up to her room....
What a dummy I am for thinking that.
She immediately went into crazy banshee mode as soon as I told her to get back upstairs.
ohhh, our li'l paige. ain't she sweet?
hehe. Okay, I probably would have folded w/ that one too, and YES I would have wrongfully assumed the delinquent would return dutifully to her room. ;) I can see it now...
Oh the things we have to look forward to....times four.
