As a kid, I always thought I had the BEST costumes. My mom always hand made them all. I even remember going with her to the store to find the mop we would later dye red and use for my Raggedy Ann hair. Here's a sampling of my greatness. A witch, a gypsy (I was just excited about the huge hoop earrings), and the cutest Raggedy Ann ever.
Before I had children of my own, I silently vowed that I, too, would hand make all of their Halloween costumes. I would have none of those cheesy store bought items.
However, 8th grade HomeEc class only taught me how to sew a poorly shaped letter pillow. Not knowing how to sew has left me somewhat creatively challenged. I've improvised a bit and bought from the store - convincing myself that they are not quite as cheesy as they once were. I may not sew, but I can use a mean eye-liner pencil with just about every costume.
There was one year that does not shine as my finest. Clearly, I displayed a lack of judgement the year Taylor was a Rescue Hero. Paige's flower costume barely qualifies as creative.
Even if I am lacking skills, my kids have had fun each year. Taylor has been some version of army the past 3 years. Ballerinas and princesses always work for girly Paige. Gabriel just wants to hold the bucket, even if he doesn't like candy. I'm guessing they are having just as much fun as their mommy did in her darling home-made costume. They just won't have bragging rights in 25 years.

seriously, though. mom did make pretty dang good costumes. i always thought mine were great, too, and i'm child #3.
Taylor's rescue hero isn't so bad. you can't beat those costumes with the muscles built in when it comes to toddlers.
o you've got your sewing machine now. let's see what you can bust out this year!
Ahhh! You look so cute. It was fun putting them together. I miss that. Yours are very cute also and they always have a good time on halloween. But, now that you have a sewing machine now....
ADORABLE! MOM WE NEED YOUR MAD SKILLS BACK! Can't you bust out a halloween costume or two for the grandkids?
So you had a cheesy year, paris will be lucky to have a title on her costume this year!
(I too had killer costumes being the baby, although one year mom forgot and i went to grandmas and she whipped something up and I won 1st prize at school!)
Ahhh Halloween costumes! :) Ditto about your mom's costumes. They're so cute and creative! How did our mothers do it? I must learn how to sew someday...
Your mom had some awesome costume skills! Sadly, I have never been good at costumes. I busted out the costume box for this year and Connor picked out a lovely China made Scooby costume that Jake wore when he was probably 3. lol Creative? No, but hey at least I get points for recycling right?
