the beginning

Summer vacation is officially under way. Woo Hoo! After our temp of 109 last week, we were lucky to have gorgeous weather all weekend. The kids played non stop while I baked my heart out and their daddy was out of town at a softball tournament.

On Memorial Day we went hiking with cousins - it couldn't have been more perfect. Since Daddy was gone, I carried Gabriel in the pack up and down on my own - because I'm something of a Wonder Woman. Not really, my face was a never before seen shade of red by the time we made it to the top. We kept a slow, steady pace. There were many comments along the trail about my strength and Gabriel having the easy ride. All I could say was, 'Yes. This is probably our last hike this way.' But, I hope not. Gabriel is a great hiking partner. We make friends. No one passes without a greeting and a smile. Doggies are particularly appreciated. Perhaps it's worth a sore neck.

Yesterday I woke up much too early cause I couldn't sleep (3:30 anyone?) so I made muffins and eggs for breakfast (we're more of a cold cereal bunch). Gabriel was the only one who appreciated my muffins. How dare I attempt something healthy like wheat and blueberries? We had what is bound to be the last of the decent weather, so the kids and I took a bike ride to the park and met up with cousins. A good time was had by all, then they realized they had to ride their bikes back home. After their tummies were fed, their attitudes cheered and they even helped wash the car. The cheer and helpful attitudes probably had more to do with the promise of ice cream, but appreciated anyway.

So, now what? I'm a teensy bit bummed out about summer. Does anyone have a little something to share about how to keep 3 little people of varying gender and age occupied and happy over the course of 2 1/2 months in sweltering heat (and even better if it's free)? There is only so much swimming we can do!

LOVE calling muffins cake. we're totally going to try that. the mook's all about cupcakes.

and rae, you better figure out some good stuff for kids to do in the heat because when we're tired of the pool we're coming to you for entertainment!
